The Sprint race comprises of a 5k run – 20k cycle – 2.5k run
First run 5k
Individual starts from the Red Bull arch on the access road near the transition entrance. There will be around 5 seconds between starts therefore we need everyone ready to start at 0900. We will get through them pretty quickly. The starts will be in reverse age group order with with category G 80+ year olds going first and finishing with category A Youths. There will be no gaps between categories, so you must be ready at 0900 regardless of age.
Cycle 20k
Closed road circuit. Now Non-Drafting
Leave T1 and enter the circuit to complete 6 laps (20k) before leaving at the same point to enter T2
Normal rules of the road apply, keep to the left hand side unless overtaking. Please be aware of faster riders particularly on the tighter corners.
Bike laps :- Counting your laps is not feasible for us with so many and often on different laps, you will have to count them yourself. The best method is to use a bike speedo, 6 laps of 3.3k each. So when you are beyond 16.5k (10.25 miles) you are on your last lap.
Second Run 2.5k
Almost out and back with just a slight deviation into the finishing straight.
You are very welcome, duathlon and triathlon is a very friendly and inclusive sport. You certainly don’t need to be an ultra fit athlete to to get a great deal out of it. You do need to be fit enough to get around the course naturally, but of more importance is the wish to challenge yourself and be prepared for the rather nice feeling of satisfaction and achievement when you cross the finish line. For us the last person over the finish line is equally as important as the first.
