Race Route

redcartri2016swimSwim - 1 lap of 750m

The placement of the swim course will be determined by the weather and sea conditions on the day. If conditions are favourable then the course will be set to the rear of the race HQ. If less favourable then we will move a little further along the beach where there is more protection. The course will be marked by 1.5m yellow buoys. There will be a number of safety kayaks in the water together with a motorised rescue rib. The Redcar RNLI will also be on the water and have stated that they will remain in the vicinity unless called to an emergency elsewhere. The water will be cool. Wetsuits will be compulsory. If you get into difficulty remember you will not sink in a wetsuit. Keep calm and keep breathing, if you need assistance raise an arm in the air towards one of the kayaks. They will come over to you and give you advice. Do not attempt to climb onto the kayak.

The swim exit will be set as near as possible to the new transition area.

You may want a towel in transition to rub the sand from your feet.

Cycle Route 20k = 4 laps on fully closed roads

The 2017 race will also be a World Championship qualification race and therefore draft legal. The cycle route has been extended from previous years and is now 4 laps. It is not practical for us to count your laps and communicate to you how many you have done. Zero your speedo and when you have done over 15k or 9.5 miles you are on your last lap.

It is a draft legal race but safety is still paramount. Ride to the left hand side of the road and overtake slower riders on the right only. Take extra care on the corners and be aware that there may be faster riders approaching at speed.

ALL MARSHALS ARE ASSISTANT RACE OFFICIALS. IF THEY CONSIDER THAT YOU ARE RIDING DANGEROUSLY THEY WILL REPORT IT TO THE OVERALL RACE OFFICIAL. THERE IS ONLY ONE SANCTION FOR DANGEROUS RIDING - DISQUALIFICATION.
