Don’t just tri…

Keswick Triathlon ~ Long Race Run Route

Note the new run route – with kind permission from National Trust we have been able to alter the run route to take you along Friar’s Crag on the way out, this is a prettier route and simpler that previously. Please take care along the crag and respect other pedestrians.

The run section is 10k.

Exit Crow Park and turn right towards the lake, run along the foreshore and onto Friars Crag follow the wheelchair route round the crag and through a gate to go out along the lakeside, go through another gate and through the trees at the next gate turn right, this is where you will return to on the way back, go over a cattle grid and continue around the lake shore. At Great Wood you join the road, turn right. Take the side road up to Ashness Bridge and Watendlath. You leave this road on the left hand side immediately before Ashness Bridge and follow the fell path to Walla Crag. When you reach the wall at the top of Walla Crag do not climb the style over the wall but follow the path that runs to the right hand side of the wall. Follow this down the other side and to the Castlerigg Road. Go past the campsites and take a sharp left back onto a footpath which takes you over a foot bridge and into Spring’s Wood. This then joins Springs Road. At the end turn left and follow the road to the church on the left, turn left and go down the side of the church. at the end of the path turn left and then very shortly right, cross the main road and take a short footapth back to Lake Road and Crow Park.
The run is a mix of road, track and fell path involving about 1000 feet of climbing. If you have fell shoes my advice would be to wear them, failing that and especially if dry a decent soled trainer will do. Most of the off-road sections are on National Trust land who have very kindly given their permission to use it. The route passes through a number of SSSI areas; it is of great importance that you follow the marked route. This is a condition of our use and permission may be refused for future events if it is not adhered to. The route is fairly complicated by necessity, again I would strongly advise if possible to go around it beforehand or at the very least carefully study the map. Absolutely no littering.

The numbers represent where there may be marshals. Click on the numbers to see a picture of the marshal point.

Fell runners please note:- in triathlon the idea is that everyone does the same route. This applies to the swim and the bike also. Taking short cuts will result in disqualification and for the reasons given above may also jeopardise the future of the event.
