The SAUCONY Castle Howard Trail Races

This extremely popular 10 Km and 6 Km Trail race plus Kids 1 Km Dash attracted in excess of 600 runners of all abilities in 2009. Now in it's fourth year at this fantastic venue the Castle Howard Trail Races are a firm fixture for many in their UK Athletics race calendar.
The 6 Km race will start at 10 am on the lawns of the house with the spectacular back drop of the North Face of Castle Howard itself. The run is a loop of the extended grounds of the estate passing by many of the famous monuments and folly's that this famous Stateley home has to offer. The 10 Km run starts at 11.15 am and completes 2 loops of the extended grounds.

Home of the famous TV series and recent film 'Brideshead Revisited' Castle Howard offers one of the most splendid back drops to any race in the UK. All standards of runners are welcomed each year to this event, from elite club runners to fun runners and first timers. The race offers friends and families of participants a great day out. The lower grounds are open to spectators for the duration of the race and for a short time there after. There is discounted entry into the House itself and the rest of the grounds after the event for both competitors and their families. The new adventure play ground is available to children at the race free of charge until early afternoon and the Boathouse Cafe and refreshment kiosk offers high quality light snacks while families enjoy both the race and it's outstanding setting. Race sponsors Mizuno and Sweatshop have a trade stand at the event, there are masseurs on hand for pre and post race massages and Herbalife offer free body fat tests and nutrition advice. There is also a 1 Km kids dash race with medal and refreshments to all those under 13 year olds who complete the course on the majestic lawns in front of the main house.

The Castle Howard Trail Race was the biggest new race in the UK Athletics calendar ( North of England ) in its first year, 2007 and in 2008 and 2009 numbers swelled yet further.

The race is promoted by North Yorkshire Police A.C. and incorporates the NYP Police Sport UK Cross Country Championships. The race is also supported by NYP Tri club, organisers of The Ripon Triathlon and more details regarding the race can be found on their web site www.nyptri.freeuk.com Many of the race organisers are involved in organising and running the Ripon Triathlon so standards are exceptionally high and nothing is left to chance.

The venue is provided by kind permission of The Honourable Simon Howard and ALL proceeds from the event go to assist the Parent Teachers Association at the local primary school, Welburn Community Primary ( Registered Charity 1089835 )
