Date: 08/08/2010
Sunday 8th August 2009 – Start 10.00am
Start: Semer Water Run start cut off: 4pm Finish: Kudu Bikes, Hawes
This race is for Teams of 3 as well as Individuals (Minimum age 18)
Swim: 1800m Semer Water
Bike: 42 of the toughest Yorkshire miles
Run: 12 miles (6 up, 6 down)
The swim is the only flat section of the course and once out of that you are straight up the first of four 1 in 4 climbs littering this course that has been described as the toughest (www.tentoughesttriathlons.co.uk) in British Triathlons.
The Bike route is up Duck hill from Semer Water, then down through Bainbridge and on to Askrigg. You then follow the road over Askrigg Common to Crow Trees, and left on to Muker before climbing up and over the Butter Tubs into Hardraw. Now ou have a flat section on to Garsdale Station, then up over Garsdale Common to Cowgill. Another left turn brings you out of dentdale to Newby Head Moss before a fast descent into Hawes, Hardraw, and back to Hawes Again.
The run is equally arduous with an off road ascent off Great Shunner Fell (500m of climbing in 6 miles) finishing in the picturesque Dales market town of Hawes. The Run is an out and back run up and and down the Pennine Way to the top of Great Shunner Fell (716m)
There will also be transport available for you and your bike from Kudu Bikes in Hawes to the start of the swim in Semer Water.
One of the hardest triathlons in the UK, this event should not be entered lightly. It is a very hard course on difficult roads, and with a fell run on a very exposed hill side.
