Helvellyn Triathlon 2008 - it's all over for another year. This time yesterday there was a great number of us thought we'd not be having a race of any description let alone a triathlon. I think despite the initial grumblings most people felt the shortened swim and run were sensible decisions. I hope you all still enjoyed the race and look forward to seeing you next year. Well done. PROVISIONAL RESULTS - CLICK HERE.

Date for next year will be Sunday 6th September 2009, entries will open on 1st November 2008.

Helvellyn Latest Update 6/9/08 - Fortunately we have internet connection in our B&B, for all those asking there are no plans to cancel the race and any changes to the race distances or format will be announced at the race briefing at 8:10am Sunday morning. Again for all those asking we will accomodate Sunday registration, but cannot possibly do all 660 of you so those that can please register this afternoon.

Car Parking - the car park as advertised on the sports field will be limited due to the weather, if at all possible avoid bringing your car - car share or leave at the b&b, campsite if you can to avoid unnecessary congestion.

See you there (I will be the one in the wellies!)

Helvellyn Briefing Notes Some entrants are having difficulty receiving the email I have circulated with briefing notes attached. Not to worry, they can be found on the main Helvellyn Tri page or by following this LINK

Keswick Mountain Festival Tri 2009.This years race was a extremely well received and sold out early in the new year. The Festival dates for 2009 are May 13-17th with the triathlon likely to be on Saturday May 16th. We are hoping to be able to increase numbers for 2009, but that is far from certain at this stage. Entries should be live on this site only by the end of September.

Helvellyn Triathlon The 3 mile climb of "The Struggle" will be just a bit more pleasant this year as we have just heard that our application to get it closed to all other traffic has been successful. This together with waved starts means that we have raised the entry limit to 700. If not already registered don't get too excited just yet as the 117 reserves have been given first refusal on the extra 100 places. They have until July 14th to pay for their entries, after which time any remaining places will be up for grabs.

Cleveland Steelman Middle Distance Tri. Entries will close this Saturday (June 28th). If you are registered and not yet paid, you are not entered. Either get the cheque off quickly or pay online. This must be the best value 1/2 Ironman race in the country, and it's a fast course. Don't miss out.

Ripon Tri - make a weekend of it. Message from the orgainser Mark Rees.

NYP Tri is offering free camping and facilities on Ripon racecourse over the entire race weekend. They are also hosting a Pre Race Pasta Party on Friday 11th July and a Post Race BBQ on Sat 12th July, as soon as the race is over. Whether you intend to sleep over or not why not join in the festivities at Yorkshire and Humbersides best Triathlon ( as voted by The BTF in 2007 ). Tickets are very reasonably priced and booking is easy by revisiting TriHard on line bookings as an existing user. If your booking options fall outside the 4 offered on line then bookings can be made directly with Race Director Mark Rees at markrees3@btinternet.com or by phoning Mark on 07736 929874. Fryton Catering Company are offering Vegetarian and Vegan options for those who specify and in partnership with NYP Tri are offering a fine selection of home cooked food at fantasticly competitive prices. Make Ripon a Family weekend. The event organisers and sponsors, Black Sheep brewery of Masham, are investing over £1000 in attended and free to use bouncy castles, slides, assault courses and a free kids dash race so there will be plenty to do for all the family. Ripon....much more than just a Triathlon!

Helvellyn Triathlon An application has been made to have 'The Struggle' closed to descending traffic. If this is successful and the cost of implementing a diversion are not prohibitive then we will be taking an extra 100 entries. There are currently 51 (as at 6/06/08) reserves registered. If you wish to be registered as a reserve go to the Helvellyn Tri online entry page and register via one of the options at the bottom of that page.

Keswick Mountain Festival Triathlon - sorry we couldn't arrange a bit more sunshine, but the cheer of the supporters brightened the day. Well done to all those who took part - Final Results Here - PHOTOS

Keswick Update- May 2nd. Went for a swim from the transition field (see picture). I have swam in colder water but it was a long time ago. The thermometer said it was 13C, but I'm not so sure it was telling the truth. However, even now at that temperature the swim is definitely on. We swam 1500m and it was Okay. Full briefing details will be emailed over the next week or so as well as linked from the Keswick page on this site. To help with your planning registration will be in the Marquee in Crow Park from 7-9pm on Friday 16th May. For those that can't make the Friday Evening there will also be registration on Saturday Morning before the race 7-8.30am. Race start will be wave 1 at 9am, wave 2 at 9.10am.

Scarborough Duathlon - The weather was reasonably kind in the end, only a handful got road rash and the general consensus was tough but good! Provisional Results - click here - PHOTOS

Scarborough Duathlon April 27th. There is still time to enter this race and be able to say to your grandchildren one day " I did the first ever Scarborough Duathlon you know." Briefing notes for those already entered can be found HERE .

Prince Bishops Triathlon entries now open and available online HERE.This is a well established and favorite event amongst North East triathletes. The venue has all the facilities you need and the challenging course takes in some of the best scenery in the region.

Keswick Triathlon is full...

.....And the reserve list is full as well, so unfortunately we have to say NO, absolutely NO more entries this year. All being well if the race is a success we will be able to increase the entry limit next year.

Hellvellyn Triathlon Training.

The Base Camps are organising a series of training sessions culminating in a full recce weekend Aug 15th - 17th. These guys are top notch, the weekend was sold out last year and all I spoke to agreed it was a brilliant weekend. All abilities catered for. The first swim training day is on May 24th. For more details click on the Base Camps logo.

Great offer for Keswick and Helvellyn entrants.

Entrants to both Helvellyn and Keswick triathlons can take advantage of 10% discount off the already very reasonable prices offered at VeloPyrenees. I haven't been able to get there myself yet, but I know some of last years' Helvellyn entrants did. It looks a fantastic place in an ideal location for all aspects of triathlon. Not only that, but it is run people who know about triathlon. If you are planning a training trip in the sun and fancy taking in a few TdF cols its well worth having a look. Click on the picture above for more information. Vaid April to end October this year and next.

Julia Bradbury to start Keswick Mountain Festival Triathlon

Presenter of BBC's Watchdog, Wainwright's Walks and Ultimate Britain has agreed to be the official starter of this year's Keswick Mountain Festival Triathlon. Julia will be one of the speakers at the Mountain Festival along with legendary climbers Chris Bonnington and Doug Scott. If you have managed to get a place in the race why not take a break in Keswick and get involved in some of the other activities of the festival. More details HERE

New free service to clubs/teams. Clubs can now set up their own online membership page on our site. Members complete the online form, their details can then be retrieved by the clubs nominated administrator in excel format at any time. If your members then send you a cheque or make other payment directly to you there is absolutely no charge to them or your club. If they wish to pay by card they can still do this, but there has to be a charge to cover our bank and card handling fees. If you wish to set this up for your club go to the ORGANISERS tab above.

Next years' events are starting to appear on our entry page. The Grindleford Gallop on 8th March looks like a fantastic 21 mile run taking in some of Derbyshire's best scenery. A great target to harden up your running for the year ahead. The Stokesley Duathlon March 30th was popular last year as a season opener for the multi sports crowd. A new event this year is the Scarborough Duathlon on closed roads around the Oliver's Mount Circuit on April 27th. Triathlons kick off with the Keswick Mountain Festival Tri on May 17th, already starting to fill up. The next weekend is the Wetherby Tri, first standard distance tri of the season on a good course. Moving ahead to July is the Cleveland Steelman Middle Distance (can't say Half Ironman)Tri on 5th. This must be the country's least expensive 1/2 Ironperson race and it's a fast course. The ever popular and Ripon Tri, July 12th is now taking entries and Helvellyn way off on September 7th looks like filling up even faster than last year. All of the above can be entered from this site.

If there is a more beautiful triathlon course in the country I will be surprised. The race is part of the 4 day Keswick Mountain Festival. Transition will be in Crow Park, Keswick, opposite the theatre. The swim will be in Derwent Water, the cycle route (all on road) is not flat but does not include any major climbs. There is nothing like The Struggle in this race. It does however include a lap of the lake with magnificent views from the foot of Cat Bells. The run is mixed, crossing the much photographed Ashness Bridge and then a fairly gentle fell route over Walla Crag, again with superb vistas across the lake and fells. Entries will be limited and will go online here very shortly. I recommend getting in early to avoid disappointment. Why not make a spring break out of it and see what else is happening at the Keswick Mountain Festival. More details about the event HERE
