Briefing Notes 2011 Race
(24/03/2011) VERY
IMPORTANT UPDATE. I have just had it confirmed
that the traffic lights on the Hutton Rudby Road will not be removed
before Sunday. Below is the new cycle course. The roundabout is a little
complicated, you need to be sure that you know where you are
going. It is explained on the plan below. The first time you come to
the roundabout you take the 4th exit. When you have completed either
1 or 2 large laps (depending on which race you are in) you then take
the 3rd exit from the roundabout back to transition. The new distances
are Novice race 10.9 miles, Main race 19 miles. For a larger version
of this map click here.

22/03/2011. We are
aware of the roadworks currently on the bike course in Stokesley. Northern
Gas cannot at present guarantee that they will be gone by Sunday, however
they have agreed to do all that is possible to be clear by then. We
do have a good alternative route planned. Further update on this Friday
evening along with details of alternative route if necessary.
(Update 19/03/11)
Wave starts. Because the path narrows
considerably after 600m the main race will be split
into two wave starts depending on category. All ladies, relay teams
and men under 40 will go in wave 1 starting at 10.00am. Wave two will
start around 5 minutes later and contain only men over 40 (age as of
31/.12/11). The novice race will start at 9.30 and be one wave only.
Welcome to the start
of the 2011Duathlon/Triathlon season in the North east and Yorkshire. This
is a live document and updates will be be made in blue type. I strongly
suggest you check these notes for last minute updates before leaving
for the event.
Race Start Time - 09:30am for
the novice (shorter) race and 10:00am for the longer race. There will
wave starts for the longer race although the category breakdown has
not been decided upon yet. Check the website a few days befor the race
to find your start time. Postcode for the Town Hall for your SatNav
is TS9 5DG.
Beat the registration queue.
If you live locally or are in the area on Saturday 26th save yourself
a lot of time on the Sunday morning (and remember the clocks go forward
that Saturday night) by registering at Godley’s bike shop 91,
Guisborough Rd., Nunthorpe, TS7 0JS. Paul has very kindly allowed us
to set up a registration desk in his brand new bike shop. You can check
out all the latest bikes and tri gear and stock up on fuel and bike
bits. Registartion will be open in Godley’s cycles from 2.00-5.30pm
on Saturday 26th.
If you enjoy standing in queues and running out of time
before the start you can leave registering until Sunday Morning. Registration
in Stokesley Town Hall will be open from 7.30- 9.00am. Race brief 9.20am
in the transition are, compulsory.
Registration; If you paid the
lower BTF members entry fee you must produce your current BTF race licence,
if not you will have to pay an extra £4 for a BTF day licence.
No arguments on this please, licence or £4. If you paid the non
BTF members entry fee you will be issued with a day licence at registration.
You will then be issued with your race number, bike number sticker and
timing chip. If you paid extra for a t-shirt this will also be issued
at registration.
Numbers. You
will be issued with 2 numbers, a bike sticker and timing chip at registration.
One number is to be displayed to the front for the runs and the other
to the rear for the cycle section. You can use race belts if you have
to but please ensure your number is clearly displayed as above. Do not
pin the middle of your number to the belt as it will fold in half and
be impossible to read.
Transition area is strictly for
competitors and officials only. This is for safety and security. Please
attach the bike sticker to your bike, suggest around the rear brake
cable casing, before checking into transition This will be checked against
your race number when you remove your bike from transition after the
race.
Car Parking. There is limited
car parking in the High Street, however there is a very large car park
about 300m away off the Stokesley Motors Roundabout.
Toilets; There are limited toilet
facilities in the Town Hall, however there are public conveniences situated
to the rear of the Town Hall. I am aware that these facilities are insufficient
for 400 with pre-race stomachs. However we are not permitted to place
temporary toilets at this location. If possible plan ahead….
Timing Chip. This must be worn
around your ankle using the strap provided. Put it on as soon as you
are issued with it at registration. If you leave it in your car you
won't get a time. Please avoid crossing the timing mats once the race
has started other than to record your time. Your chip will be removed
very shortly after crossing the finish line, however should you manage
to escape from the finish corral before your chip is removed avoid crossing
any of the timing mats. THERE WILL BE A £10 FEE FOR LOST OR NON-RETUNED
CHIPS and remember...we know where you live.
Rules. The race has been sanctioned
by British Triathlon Federation and is subject to BTF rules. There will
be British Triathlon referees both static and mobile. There are many
rules governing triathlons/duathlons which can be studied at the British
Triathlon website if desired. However, listed are a few of the more
basic ones that often upset referees and other competitors alike.
• Helmets; Must be worn and fastened before you
remove your bike from the racking and until you place it back on the
racking before your second run.
• Drafting or taking pace during the cycle section
is not allowed. There must be at least 7m between cyclists on the road.
If you are overtaken you must drop back at least that distance before
trying to regain your place.
• Transition area; No cycling in the transition
area. The mount/dismount points will be pointed out at the race briefing.
Helmets shoes and other equipment must be stored neatly at your racking
spot so as not to impede other competitors. Transition space is limited
only bring what you need for the race into transition.
• Marshals and officials are all volunteers and
the race could not take place without them. Any abuse will result in
disqualification. Please refer any dispute to the race referee.
• No outside assistance. If you puncture or have
mechanical problems once the race has started you have to fix them yourself.
No handing up of food or drinks from anyone else. You have to carry
or leave in transition what you require. The drinks station in transition
is an exception to this rule as it is provided for all competitors.
• No Litter. If you need to take energy bars,
gels etc. make sure that you dispose of the wrappers appropriately.
The easiest way is to tuck it in the leg of your shorts, you won’t
know it's there. Anyone caught littering during the race will be disqualified.
Relay Teams.
Your timing chip will be your "baton". Runner 1 must wear
the chip around their ankle. Changeover will be at the bike racking
point. The cyclist may be helmeted and ready to go, but the bike must
remain racked until they have received and securely fastened the timing
chip to their ankle. On returning the cyclist must rack their bike before
removing the timing chip. They then hand it to the runner for run 2
who must again attach it to their ankle before setting off from the
bike racking point. If the chip is carried in any other way than on
the ankle of the active participant the team will be disqualified.
Race Route; details of the course can be found
by following the links in the left hand column of this page. The main
race is one short lap and one long lap of the cycle course, the novice
race is one long lap. .Remember, BTF rules
stipulate that it is the competitors responsibility to familiarise themselves
with the route.
Satefy: You are responsible for
your own safety. The roads will not be closed and there are no exceptions
to normal road traffic regulations. Marshals cannot stop traffic; they
are there purely there to indicate the route. Please take particular
care when joining the A172 from Goulton Lane.
Drinks; will be available on
each transition exit and at the finish courtesy of A1 Multisports .
Refreshments; tea, coffee and
light refreshments will be available in the Town Hall. There are plenty
of pubs and other eating establishments in the town. All monies raised
from refreshments in the Town Hall is for the benefit of local guiding
units
.
Presentation will be as soon
as possible after the race has finished. Please be patient, the more
you hassle the longer it takes.
Any sensible questions not answered here please email me. Replies will
be brief as these are many of you and only one of me. Most importantly
have a very safe and enjoyable day.
Rob Wilkins
Race Director.
