Welcome to the first Lakeland
Standard Distance Triathlon. This race is being co-organised by Tri-Lakeland Triathlon
Club and TriHard Events. It is a more conventional triathlon than the other
races organised in the
Race Venue; is Bassenthwaite
Sailing Club CA13 9YD, on the B5291 just off the A66 at Dubwath
6 miles West of Keswick.
Car Parking; There is ample car
parking within the grounds of the sailing club. There is however only one
entrance/exit point which will also be used for the race. It is therefore
requested that your car remains in the car park for the duration of the race.
If you have to leave before the race has finished please be extremely careful. If
spectators want to see part of the bike course a very good vantage point is
only 900m from the Sailing Club at
Camping; Unfortunately camping is
not available at the Sailing Club. There is a caravan site about a mile away Herdwick
Croft with very limited camping space. Scotgate Park at the Keswick end of the lake is larger
and I am told is very good.
Toilets/Showers; There are changing,
toilet and shower facilities available within the sailing club.
Registration; Will be in the Sailing
Clubhouse between
Timing Chip; You will be given an
orange timing chip and neoprene ankle strap at registration. Please immediately
attach the chip to the strap. If you find that you have to force it on you are
doing it incorrectly, please ask rather than damage the strap. The chip must be
worn around your ankle (either). If it’s not worn you won’t get a time.
Pre-race Briefing; will be in the transition
area at
Swim 1500m; There will be 2 swim
waves based on declared swim time given on your entry form. Wave 1 will contain
the fastest swimmers. Please swim in
your allocated wave, failure to do so will result in incorrect time calculation
and will also make you subject to an additional time penalty. If you did not
declare a swim time on your entry I will contact you shortly. If I don’t
contact you then I have a time for you. If the water
temperature is below 13C the swim will have to be shortened, BT rules.
There
will be safety kayaks and a rescue launch on the lake. If you get into
difficulty, don’t panic, it’s hard to sink in a wetsuit. Lie on your back and
wave an arm toward one of the kayaks. They will then tow you to the shore or to
the safety launch.
Cycle 42k; see
map One lap. The roads will all
be open to other traffic. It is your responsibility to negotiate safely around
the route and to comply with all road traffic regulations. The route will be
signed and marshalled at key points, however under British Triathlon rules it
is the competitors responsibility to know the route.
Run 10k; see
map The run is all on road, leaving the Sailing
Club it follows a one lap anti-clockwise course. There is one hill which does
go on a bit. It starts after the right turn at 1.8k. There will be a drinks
station outside the golf course at about half distance.
Relay Race; There are currently 20
relay teams entered. The timing chip and strap is your baton. The swimmer will
start wearing the chip around their ankle. The changeover point will be at your
team bike position in transition. The timing chip must be fastened to the
cyclists’ ankle before the bike is removed from the racking. On completion of
the bike section, once the bike has been racked the chip must be fitted to the
runner’s ankle before setting off on the run. Swimming running or cycling with
the chip anywhere other than attached to the ankle will result in
disqualification.
Litter; This race takes place in an
environmentally sensitive area; it is not acceptable to drop any litter, energy
bar/gel wrappers or anything else on any part of the course. It is a criminal offence to drop litter and
if caught doing so by any race official will result in disqualification. It
is easy to tuck any wrappers etc into the leg of your shorts while you are
racing and dispose of properly when you finish.
Marshals; Are all volunteers, races
can not happen without them. They are there purely to
indicate the route and arrange assistance if required. They cannot in law stop
or direct traffic and will be directed not to do so.
Finally; I wish everyone taking
part in this race the very best of luck in you final preparations and of course
in the race itself. Have a safe and enjoyable race.
