Kirkby Killer
2005 -
This was a
one off race in the end, it was tricky to host and has now
been replaced by Stokesley Spring Duathlon.
The race
was based in the village of Kirkby about 2 miles outside
Stokesley, North Yorkshire. The race HQ was in The Black
Swan PH in the village centre.
First Run
(4 miles) Massed start in In the lane outside the transition
area. There is then a steady incline up the lane towards
Pybus Scout campsite. Just before the entrance to the site
take the bridalway to the left. Continue through Soloman's
Porch Farm to Bank Lane. Turn left here and continue along
the lane to the junction with the B1257. Continue along
the B1257 approx half a mile to the Cleveland Bay PH. Take
the lane to the left just beyond the PH. After anout 75m
you have a choice. Either take the narrow footbridge over
the river or the wider tractor bridge to the left or take
the shorter, but wetter, route through the ford. Then continue
along The Holme to Kirkby Lane. Turn left here for the last
half mile back to transition.
Cycle
Section (22 miles) From
transition turn right at the crossroads towards Great Broughton.
Go straight on at the mini-roundabout to the T-junction
at Ingleby Greenhow. Turn right to the T-junction beyond
the level-crossing at Battersby. Turn right, continue through
Kildale to Percy Rigg cross-roads. Turn right, continue
to the junction just prior to Hobb Hole. Turn left and continue
to next junction, turn left again to Commondale. Turn left
at Commondale to Percy Rigg crossroads. Then retrace from
there back to The Black Swan.
Second Run
(4 miles) This run is harder than the first. Start as
you did the first run up to the scout camp. This time continue
through the scout camp following the very obvious path to
junction in paths (547034). Turn right at the stone gate
posts (see below) and traverse across Kirkby Bank to junction
in the paths (537035). Turn right here and descend along
the marked path back to the camp site. Retrace along the
lane back to finish just before the pub.
