New Short Race. 400m - 17.5k bike - 5k run****
These
races form part of the four day . The venue is superb and the course
has to be the most picturesque in the country. It sets an
early season challenge, but does not have any mega climbs
on the bike and you won't have to use your hands on the
run, although it is tough with about 1/2 being fell paths.
It's a great event in it's own right, but will also act
as a taster for what you can expect in the "Day in
The Lakes" Half Ironman in June and "Helvellyn"
in September.

The transition
area is in Crow Park over the road from the theatre. There
will be other events taking place in the park, the program
is not finalised yet, but keep checking the KMF
website for details. The swim will be in crystal clear Derwent
Water (wetsuits compulsory). The cycle section is all on road
and follows a route through Keswick towards Thirlmere. Left
along St John's in the Vale then along some minor roads before
joining the A66 for a short and fast downhill section. It
leaves the A66 at Portiscale and follows a fantastically scenic
route around the lake and back to transition. The run follows
the footpath along the lake shore before joining Borrowdale
Rd at Great Wood. It then follows the road to the much photographed
Ashness Bridge. At the bridge take the path over Walla Crag
(325m) with more fabulous views and then drop back down to
finish in Crow Park.
There
will be a main open race together with a relay category
(one swimmer, one cyclist, one runner). The race will be
electronically timed. There will be lots of other things
taking place on the race day as well as over the whole of
the four day Keswick
Mountain Festival. It should be well worth making an
extended weekend trip. Entry limited to 350. This race filled
a week in 2009, don't be disappointed. See the video of
last years festival with footage of the triathlon by clicking
here.
New
Short Race. This will be run in conjunction with
the longer race. 400m lake swim. The bike is on road one
lap of the lake and the run is just about flat along mainly
lakeside tracks, but could be damp in a couple
of places. There is no relay option in this race. Numbers
are restricted to only 150.
