750m
swim - 35k cycle - 8k
run
This
is a new event and part of the four day . The venue is superb and the course
has to be most picturesque in the country. It will set an
early season challenge, but does not have any mega climbs
on the bike and you won't have to use your hands on the
run. Helvellyn it isn't.
The transition
area is in Crow Park over the road from the theatre. There
will be other events taking place in the park including an
RAF Search and Rescue helicopter. The swim will be in crystal
clear Derwent Water (wetsuits compulsory). The cycle section
is all on road and follows a route through Keswick towards
Thirlmere. Left along St John's in the Vale then along some
minor roads before joining the A66 for a short and fast downhill
section. It leaves the A66 at Portiscale and follows a fantastically
scenic route around the lake and back to transition. The run
follows the footpath along the lake shore before crossing
Borrowdale Rd at Great Wood. It then follows the Terrace Path
to the much photographed Ashness Bridge. Over the bridge then
left following the fell path over Walla Crag (325m) with more
fabulous views and then dropping back down to finish outside
the theatre
.

There
will be a main open race together with a relay category
(one swimmer, one cyclist, one runner). The race will be
electronically timed by Race Timing Systems possibly the
countries leading triathlon timing company. There will be
lots of other things taking place on the race day as well
as over the whole of the four day Keswick
Mountain Festival. It should be well worth making an
extended weekend trip. Entry limited to 300.
Full
details of the route and timings will be posted here shortly.
