Bike
Route Long Race (changed from 2009)
Cycle Section 22.8 miles:- The cycle section is all
on open public roads and must be taken. Much of the route is on narrow
roads with twisty descents and blind corners. You alone are responsible
for your safe navigation around the course. Dangerous cycling or failure
to comply with traffic regulations will result in disqualification and
my also result in police prosecution. There are some particular points
where extra caution is required.
.At 1.5k there is a right turn at the Main
Street mini-roundabout.
. At 3k the short race route and the long race route part company on
Chestnut Hill. Be sure you know which way you need to go.
• At 11 miles you join the main A66 trunk road from a minor road,
you must stop if necessary.
• At 14 miles you turn left from the A66 into a minor road leading
through Portinscale. From here the roads become narrow and twisty as
you travel along the far side of the lake. It is also popular with day
trippers.
• At 16 miles there is a short climb up a series of ‘Z’
bends. There is also a cattle grid. This should not cause a problem,
but if you don’t like them I suggest you get off and cross it
on foot.
• At 18.5 miles you enter the hamlet of Grange. There are some
very sharp blind corners here and it is popular with tourists, there
will be pedestrians wandering around. SLOW DOWN and take great care.
As you leave Grange there is a very narrow
double bridge. If there is a car already on the bridge you will
struggle to get past. You may have to stop. Change
to 2009 course. As you return to Keswick do not
turn left at the Lake
Road roundabout but continue straight ahead back past the central
car park to the junction with Crow
Park Rd (Booths Supermarket) where you turn left then after 200m
take the ridht fork to finish at the rear entrace to Crow Park (dismount)
See map for full route details. I strongly advise you make time to
ride or drive around the course prior to the race.
