Stockton Triathlon 2010....

Lots of people did their first triathlon today 22nd Aug)at Stockton. If you were one of those then very many congratulations to you on taking what will hopefully be the first step to a new, enjoyable and fulfilling pastime, I look forward to seeing you at many more races in the future.

The weather was even better than in the photo below, wall to wall sunshine.. it felt like a real carnival atmosphere with great support around the course. All the marshals were brilliant again with some starting before 7 and not finishing until after 5 this evening, thanks to all of them for making events like this happen. The photos and video will be linked up to this website as soon as we have then. Provisional results can be found below. Thanks for to all that attended...

Results for each race: Mini Triathlon - Sprint Triathlon - Standard Triathlon

Stockton Tri....

Just been over the swim course, beautiful, the water was a balmy 17C. . We have just cracked 400 entrants in total which is way beyond expectations. The water may look more like tea, (where do you think they got the name Tees from) that is because of the peat wsahed down from the Pennies due to the recent heavey rain up there. I have been in contact with the Environment agency today and am assured that the water quality is very good.

All looking good for Sunday

The picture was taken this evening 17/08/2010

Helvellyn Training Camp. There is still time to sign up for the Helvellyn Training Camp August 13/15th. It's a great way to find out about the race and how best to tackle it., It's also simply a brilliant triathlon training weekend with very experienced and committed coaches who also know how to have a good time. All levels catered for and timed to fire you up ready for the big race. Details here

An apology. To anyone that specifically bought a copy of August's 220 magazine expecting to see the Helvellyn Recce article. I was told by them that the article would be in August's edition. That edition is out now and clearly the article is not in it. I am awaiting clarification from 220, perhaps they mean the edition that comes out in August which will be September's edition. All very confusing.

220 Triathlon Mmagazine will be running a recce article on the Helvellyn Triathlon. They will be running an article covering a full recce of the Helvellyn Triathlon course. If you haven't done the race yet or have entered and want to know what you have let yourself in for the article will give you an insight into why Helvellyn is regarded as one of the toughest triathlon courses in the world. Pictured are myself, 2004 ladies winner Jen Milsom, 2008 ladies winner Cheryl Frost, 2 times men's winner Mark Laithwait and journalist Nik Cook. Not pictured is photographer Stuart Holmes who is not only a brilliant photographer but was able to keep running ahead of us with a rucksack full of cameras to take some stunning pictures. Keswick Tri Race Report...Here Photos by www.JohnHowellsPhotography.co.uk

One of the Kazakh entrants running up the finish hill at Keswick. Unlucky for the guy behind. If you were there you would know what this is all about. Borat was DQed for inappropriate dress (nipple violation) conduct likely to bring the sport into disrepute, fail to display number correctly, take your pick. Results (updated 26/05).

Keswick Mountain Festival TriHard Events start with a splash.... and a dash! The sun shone and the water was warm and the provisional results are here.

Free Open Water Swim Coaching for "A Day in the Lakes" Entrants. If you are entered in the "A Day in the Lakes" Triathlon on June 27th you can take advantage of a free open water coaching session to be held at the race venue the day before. The session will focus on open water technique and tactics and is will not be a physically intensive training session. Full details and can be found by clicking on The Endurance Coach logo. The sessions are completely free of charge but pre-registration is essential. The race does have exclusive use of a very large camping field away from the main campsite in which the transition area is also situated. Full changing and shower facilities are available. If you needed a reason to make it a full weekend trip you now have one.

Hot water for Keswick: Despite the worst winter and coldest spring for ten thousand years I dangled my thermometer off the end of one of the piers in Derwentwater the other day and it read 11C. Unfortunately I didn't have time to go in for a confirmation swim, but just imagine how hot it's going to be for the Mountain Festival Triathlons on May 23rd!!! I would still pack the wetsuit though.

A Rare Opportunity for Junior Triathletes. The North East Region of Triathlon England are hosting the Hetton Lyons Junior open water triathlon for the full range of junior categories. The venue is Hetton Lyons Country Park which has a purpose built road cycling circuit, a shallow (warmish) lake and great routes for running making it perfect for a junior race. The event, now in its second year, aims to create a more grown-up event feel for 2010 aided by a proper transition area, chip timing and the open water aspect will certainly be unusual for most juniors. Support with wetsuits and pre- event open water training at the park is available. The date is July 17th and entries are open now on our Event Entry pages.

Stokesley Duathlon Results.. Weather was windy but dry and even some sun at times. Overall winner was Douglas Roberts for the men and Melanie Hayward for the women. Well done to all taking part and thanks to all the marshals. Provisional Results HERE.

Will you be doing one of the 10 hardest's triathlons on the planet this year? If you are doing the Helvellyn Tri on September 5th you are. That's according to the March edition of Triathlete Europe Magazine, and it's the only UK event on their list of the world's toughest triathlons. I haven't done all of the 'hard core' triathlons in the world so I don't know, but one respected source thinks it's up there.

£2000 Prize Pot for Stockton Triathlon. Additional funding has been obtained for the all new Stockton Standard Distance Triathlon on August 22nd. This is on top of the normal age group prizes and will be split evenly between the first 4 men and women overall. The split will be £500 for first, £250 second, £150 third and £100 fourth. There will also be an open water Sprint Race and a pool based Mini Tri all at the same location. Overnight accommodation is available on the course at the University Halls of residence. There is a planned Triathlon Village and music event next to the transition to enhance the atmosphere. And entry fees are incredibly reasonable for an event of this nature on fully closed roads in the Town Centre. Entries are open now..

Lakeland Standard Distance Tri. Entries are now open for this popular event. New in 2009, the course and venue worked fantastically well. Currently entries are restricted to 300 which is fewer than last year, however we are working on extra facilities which may enable us to take numbers up slightly. But be warned, there were 350 entries last year and the race was well received.

Race Fuel Offer TriHard have teamed up with North East based SportPerformance.co.uk who will be supporting all of our 2010 races. They offer all of the sports nutritional products you are ever likely to need together with expert advice to tailor your requirements to your forthcoming events and training. I doubt you will find quality performance products cheaper and not only that but all entrants of TriHard races will get a discount code which will further reduce costs.

Keswick Splash & Dash

Entries are now open for the Mountain Festival Splash & Dash. A 400m lake swim followed by 5 laps (5000m) around Crow Park, 7pm on Friday 21st May. So if you are making it a weekend for the triathlon on the Sunday, and why wouldn't you, its a great warm up and a bit off fun before well earned refreshmentl in one of the town's many fine hostelries. Only 50 places.

All New Stockton Triathlon For 2010.

Plans are now well underway for a revised Stockton Triathlon. Stockton Borough Council (SBC) will be working with local triathlon organisers TriHard for the 2010 race. SBC are extremely keen to stage a top quality triathlon in the town. The Riverside and Teesdale areas certainly have the makings for a great urban triathlon course. To that end a completely new fully closed road course has been proposed with transition based on the Riverside rather than the at the Tees Barrage. The cycle course will be more compact and spectator friendly with competitors being visible up to 4 times per lap in places. The run will be along the riverside footpaths between and over the Castlegate Bridge and the New Infinity Bridge (pictured). Our plan is to put together a great race in 2010 that we hope will enjoy good regional support and then have something to put to British Triathlon for a National Standard event for 2011. There will be both Standard and Sprint distance open water races on Sunday August 22nd and possibly a pool based mini race on Saturday 21st. Entries and full details will be available on this site shortly.

Winter Aquathlon Events. Newcastle Tri Club are taking entries for their winter aquathlon events. There is a juniors race on November 28th and senior and junior races on December 12th. They are a great way to keep the motivation going at this time of year and to catch up with other members of your triathlon family. Follow the links on the Event Entries page for more details.

Keswick Race fills in 2 1/2 days. However all is not lost if you missed out. At the time of writing there are justl 43 of the 150 places in the short race left. It is also a very spectacular course (see below) and will be very much a part of the Mountain Festival. Don't risk a second bout of disappointment enter here

Second Sprint Race for Keswick Tri. There will be a sprint race held in conjunction with next year's Keswick Mountain Festival Triathlon. The race will be 400m lake swim then 1 lap of Derwentwater on the bike, 17.5k, then a flat 5k run along the lakeside paths. Entries are limited to just 150 and open on this site only on November 1st.

Entries for TriHard's 2010 races open on November 1st. This is an important date particularly if you are hoping to enter the Keswick Mountain Festival Triathlon as all 300 entries went in 6 days last November. Good news concerning Keswick is that we have been allowed to increase numbers to 350 for 2010. We have also submitted plans for a shorter distance race to be run in conjunction with the main race at Keswick. But that has not yet been been approved by the land owners, however you can rest assured that an announcement will be made on this site the moment we get an answer. Entries to some races by other organisers have already opened on this site and are already flowing in. 2010 looks like being a bumper year for events in the north with quite a few new races taking shape. It doesn't look like there will be many gaps in the calendar.

Helvellyn Triathlon ... Well that's it, It's all over for another year. The last race in the TriHard calendar and it marks the end of a tiring but successful season. Well done to all those who took part today, a fantastic time recorded by men's winner Daniel Corner 3:22:39. Even taking into account the shortened swim compares very well to Alistair Brownlee's 3:28:14 in the 2007 race. First lady was Pollyanne Veazey-French in 4:01:30. Also very well done to Sally Smith 8:03:26 who's effort and determination is at least equal to that of the front runners. Many thanks once again to all our marshals who, I'm sure you'll all agree did a sterling job over the whole weekend in the set up and on the day. Thanks also to our sponsors Arragons Cycles, Lakes Runner and Wilson's of Kendal. Provisional Race Results. (updated 8/09/09). 2009 Race Photos
