Keswick Update -
May 2nd. Went for a swim from the transition
field (see picture). I have swam in colder water but it
was a long time ago. The thermometer said it was 13C, but
I'm not so sure it was telling the truth. However, even
now at that temperature the swim is definitely on. We swam
1500m and it was Okay. Full briefing details will be emailed
over the next week or so as well as linked from the Keswick
page on this site. To help with your planning registration
will be in the Marquee in Crow Park from 7-9pm on Friday
16th May. For those that can't make the Friday Evening there
will also be registration on Saturday Morning before the
race 7-8.30am. Race start will be wave 1 at 9am, wave 2
at 9.10am.
Scarborough Duathlon - The weather was reasonably
kind in the end, only a handful got road rash and the general
consensus was tough but good! Provisional Results - -
Scarborough Duathlon
April 27th. There is still time to enter this race and be
able to say to your grandchildren one day " I did the
first ever Scarborough Duathlon you know." Briefing
notes for those already entered can be found HERE

Prince Bishops Triathlon
entries now open and
available online HERE.This
is a well established and favorite event amongst North East
triathletes. The venue has all the facilities you need and
the challenging course takes in some of the best scenery
in the region.
Keswick Triathlon
is full...
.....And the
reserve list is full as well, so unfortunately we have to
say NO, absolutely NO more entries this year. All being
well if the race is a success we will be able to increase
the entry limit next year.
Hellvellyn Triathlon
Training.
The
Base Camps are organising
a series of training sessions culminating in a full recce
weekend Aug 15th - 17th. These guys are top notch, the weekend
was sold out last year and all I spoke to agreed it was
a brilliant weekend. All abilities catered for. The first
swim training day is on May 24th. For more details click
on the Base Camps logo.
Great offer for Keswick
and Helvellyn entrants.
Entrants
to both Helvellyn and Keswick triathlons can
take advantage of 10% discount off the already very reasonable
prices offered at VeloPyrenees. I haven't
been able to get there myself yet, but I know some of last
years' Helvellyn entrants did. It looks a fantastic place
in an ideal location for all aspects of triathlon. Not only
that, but it is run people who know about triathlon. If
you are planning a training trip in the sun and fancy taking
in a few TdF cols its well worth having a look. Click on
the picture above for more information. Vaid April to end
October this year and next.
Julia Bradbury to
start Keswick Mountain Festival Triathlon
Presenter of BBC's Watchdog, Wainwright's
Walks and Ultimate Britain has agreed to be the
official starter of this year's Keswick
Mountain Festival Triathlon. Julia will
be one of the speakers at the Mountain Festival along with
legendary climbers Chris Bonnington and Doug Scott. If you
have managed to get a place in the race why not take a break
in Keswick and get involved in some of the other activities
of the festival. More details HERE
New free service to clubs/teams. Clubs
can now set up their own online membership page on our site.
Members complete the online form, their details can then
be retrieved by the clubs nominated administrator in excel
format at any time. If your members then send you a cheque
or make other payment directly to you there is absolutely
no charge to them or your club. If they wish to pay by card
they can still do this, but there has to be a charge to
cover our bank and card handling fees. If you wish to set
this up for your club go to the ORGANISERS tab above.
Next years' events are starting to appear on our
entry page. The Grindleford Gallop
on 8th March looks like a fantastic 21 mile run taking in
some of Derbyshire's best scenery. A great target to harden
up your running for the year ahead. The Stokesley
Duathlon March 30th was popular last year as a
season opener for the multi sports crowd. A new event this
year is the Scarborough Duathlon on closed
roads around the Oliver's Mount Circuit on April 27th. Triathlons
kick off with the Keswick Mountain Festival Tri
on May 17th, already starting to fill up. The next weekend
is the Wetherby Tri, first standard distance
tri of the season on a good course. Moving ahead to July
is the Cleveland Steelman Middle Distance
(can't say Half Ironman)Tri on 5th. This must be the country's
least expensive 1/2 Ironperson race and it's a fast course.
The ever popular and Ripon Tri, July 12th
is now taking entries and Helvellyn way
off on September 7th looks like filling up even faster than
last year. All of the above can be entered from this site.

If there is a more beautiful triathlon course in
the country I will be surprised. The race is part
of the 4 day Keswick
Mountain Festival. Transition will be in Crow Park,
Keswick, opposite the theatre. The swim will be in Derwent
Water, the cycle route (all on road) is not flat but does
not include any major climbs.
There is nothing like The Struggle in this race. It does
however include a lap of the lake with magnificent views
from the foot of Cat Bells. The run is mixed, crossing the
much photographed Ashness Bridge and then a fairly gentle
fell route over Walla Crag, again with superb vistas across
the lake and fells. Entries will be limited and will go
online here very shortly. I recommend getting in early to
avoid disappointment. Why not make a spring break out of
it and see what else is happening at the Keswick
Mountain Festival. More details about the event HERE
